NOCSI Congratulates IOC Scholarship recipients

The National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI) yesterday congratulates the 7 athletes who are recipients of the IOC athlete scholarship for Paris 2024.

The National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI) yesterday congratulates the 7 athletes who are recipients of the IOC athlete scholarship for Paris 2024.

During a light refreshment organised by the NOCSI yesterday, the President told the athletes that they are so fortunate to be the recipients of the Paris 2024 athlete scholarships and congratulates the athletes. He further remind the athletes to utilise the opportunity to gain more experience and enhance their training to excel further in their respective sports as the Nation is preparing for 2023 Pacific Games.

The Secretary General and the Chair of the Athletes Commission further remind the athletes to be good ambassadors and focus on their training. During the brief ceremony the President and Secretary General hands over tickets to Sharon Firisua of Athletics and Pemberton Lele of boxing, the first two recipients to fly out of the country today to begin their training in Australia. The seven scholarship recipients are: 1. Sharon Firisua (athletics) 2. Dianah Matekali (athletics) 3. Rosefelo Siosi (athletics) 4. Pemberton Lele (boxing) 5. Issac Pat Myrie (taekwondo) 6. Mary Kini (weightlifting) 7. Jenly Wini (weightlifting).

The NOCSI of Solomon Islands began receiving athlete scholarships in 2015, back then it was only 4. Now we are so fortunate to be given another 3 scholarships for Paris 2024. The President on behalf of the NOCSI Executive Board extends the Boards sincere gratitude to the first 4 recipients who continue to produce excellent results and won medals for the country both regionally and internationally. The President reminds the new recipients the first 4 have set the bar and we expect the same from you.

The President thanks the IOC and ONOC for facilitating and awarding the scholarships to the seven recipients and their continuous support especially as Solomon Islands is Hosting the Pacific Games November next year.
