The National Referral Hospital's (NRH) medical superintendent, Dr. Janella Solomon, applauds the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI) for the timely donation of lifesaving equipment.
The two automated defibrillators were funded by the Oceania National Olympic Committee (ONOC) Medical Commission (MC) through the National Olympic Committee of the Solomon Islands (NOCSI) Medical Commission (MC).
Speaking during a brief handover ceremony held at the NRH conference room, Dr. Solomon conveyed her gratitude to NOCSI, saying the devices themselves cost a lot of dollars and that receiving such support is a great privilege.
Solomon further elaborates on the importance of the devices to the emergency department, as they only have manual defibrillators in place compared to these advanced automated defibrillators.
Representing the NOCSI Medical Commission, Dr. Jack Puti handed over the equipment to the emergency head of department, Dr. Trina Sale, and was witnessed by members of the media and medical staff of the NRH.
Puti then gave confidence and trust to the NRH Emergency Department, as he hopes the devices will surely be put to good use when needed.
In response, Dr. Sale acknowledges the timely offer from NOCSI, saying the donated life-saving devices are really essential in the emergency department, and with these types of equipment, it will surely boost the department's performance in any required emergency cases.
“Early defib relation is important in resuscitation and for survival, and with the donation of these two AEDs, it will help us to achieve our plans in ensuring that there’s a defibrillator available in all different areas in the emergency departments,” she said.
Trina further added that her department will be having emergency staff trainings for this equipment’s as well for better and more accurate use of the devices.
"Currently, the NRH emergency department has only manual defibrillators in place, as this is really a step up for the emergency department,” Dr. Sale added.
Dr Solomon then assures NOCSI of their support in providing professional medical training to medical professionals for sports, as more international and local events are coming up in due course.
