CCECC SPECIAL ADVISORS TO ASSIST PG FACILITIES MAINTENANCE AFTER GAME

Chair of National Hosting Authority (NHA) and Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr. Jimmy Rodgers says China Civil Engineering Construction Company’s (CCECC) special advisors will assist local authorities on maintaining the Pacific Games facilities for two years after the games under a two years arrangement.

Rodgers revealed this during the weekly media conference last Friday organized by the Office of the Prime Minister held at the newly built soccer stadium at King George.

Rodgers added that a team of lead engineers under the NHA responsible for each facility will also be part of the arrangement where they will be working closely with the CCECC special advisors.

He said the arrangement is crucial for the transfer of knowledge and to equip those responsible with the skills to carry on the work after the games.

He added that National Sports Council (NSC) who will assume the responsibility for maintaining these facilities will be supported with necessary fundings to carry out the work.

For a start the government through NHA will support the NSC within the first 24 months (two years) with a budget to allow NSC to carry out much needed maintenance and operation whilst at the same time commences raising money through the use of the facilities.

He said they are now reviewing the NSC Act to include two other newly established divisions, one is the Solomon Island National Institute of Sport (SINIS) and the Operation and Management of all PG facilities.

A new unit that will be tasked to oversee maintenance and operation of the facilities under NSC.

“For the stadiums project, we will have for two years arrangement with CCECC which we will have specialist advisors to help us on the maintenance of the stadiums project. On the operation and management, they will have people who will work with CCECC special advisors plus our (NHA) team leaders.

“We have team leaders (Engineers) that are responsible for each facility. Those engineers are our key people who will continue after the games. So, the NHA planning, we do have lead engineers that will continue and we finance them.

So, the operating budget that we will put on for NSC from next year on wards will finance all the technical people, maintenance cost and ongoing operations. We will finance the first 24 months and that money will be transferred to this entity (NSC) and that will give them twelve months to raise money.

“The main division was sports development, that has been what it has been doing all the time. That is in their mandate. That is why we need to change the NSC Act. Because the other two divisions are new. First one is the SINIS. The second division is the operation and management of all facilities.

“On that, just to inform you all. We have a team that is working on that. We have appointed the advisor which will be here for two years, in terms of maintenance, that team is already taking on all the maintenance and planning for futsal stadium. We have a maintenance budget for that and is operational.” SPM Rodgers said.
