Sport education is critical to athlete and sport development. The National Olympic Committee of the Solomon Islands (NOCSI) is a beneficiary of the Oceania Sport Education Programme (OSEP).
OSEP is the flagship programme of the Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) and it is recognised as an exemplar best practice community-based sport education programme in the Olympic Movement.
The objectives of OSEP are:
NOCSI has facilitated the training of sports administrators and leaders who have strengthened the sector. More importantly, the OSEP training has contributed to the improvement of coaches and technical officials - providing content and approaches that can be applied to all sports and sporting organisations.
It is most useful as a programme to underpin and complement other key technical sports-specific training and education offered by regional and international sports federations. NOCSI has also benefited from OSEP through support received in training for Governance, Finance and Administration and it looks forward to implementation with guidance.
Through OSEP, NOCSI looks forward to upcoming development in the strengthening of the programme from ONOC.
NOCSI encourages all Solomon Islands athletes and national federations to look for opportunities that OSEP will make available as it develops its new website and Learning Management System (LMS) to take OSEP online in the coming year.
These are products and priorities that were informed by the Compass Pasifika and APEX Global Sports Group Evaluation Report after the independent evaluation of OSEP commissioned by ONOC in 2020.
