WITH all group stages now complete, the Solomon Islands are on course for the OFC Women’s Olympic Qualifier semi-final with Samoa, after both teams secured wins in the last eight.
Batram Suri’s side, which came through the group A stage unbeaten with only a draw, will play against the host Samoa in Apia on Friday in the semi-final play-off for a place in Monday’s final. In the other semi-final, New Zealand will face off against Fiji on Friday.
The road to the semi-finals has not been easy for the Solomon Islands. They secured victories over rivals Fiji and American Samoa, showcasing their attacking prowess and solid defensive strategies.
Moreover, the stakes are extremely high for both nations. A victory in this semi-final would not only secure a place in the Olympic qualifiers’ final but also bring them one step closer to realizing their dream of representing their country in the prestigious Paris Olympics.
The Solomon Islands will undoubtedly rely on their talented squad and tactical strategies to outplay their opponents. The team’s impressive run thus far has boosted their confidence and belief in their abilities. However, they will be well aware that Samoa will pose a formidable challenge and leave no room for complacency.
Coach Suri of the Solomon Islands told Raw Sports that his team is looking forward to facing the host country on Friday with confidence.
“Indeed! In the semi-final match, we will take on Samoa, and we are excited to play them in front of their supporters.
“They have most of their players based abroad in Australia, the United States, and New Zealand, but we must still challenge them no matter what,” he said.
